As a father-absent daughter, Irene is familiar with the wounds caused by physical and emotional paternal abandonment. Her parents divorced when she was only 2 years old and already showing signs of trauma due to domestic violence.
Her adolescent and young adult years were tumultuous and rife with insecurity, poor self-image, and lack of ambition. But on August 1, 1986, Irene had an encounter with God that forever changed her life. Sitting in the same auditorium where, 3 years earlier, she had received her high school diploma, Irene gave her life to Christ and, for the first time, experienced the transforming love of God.
rene Romero Hanna is an ordained minister and licensed social worker. In 2016, Irene founded Divinely Adopted Daughters, a ministry birthed from personal experience.
Combining her social work training with her deep faith and love for God, Irene has devoted her life to sharing her story to bring hope to others and give glory to God.
In Christ, Irene found abundant life, immeasurable joy, and her reason for living. The once aimless young woman, with no hope for the future, discovered her worth and embraced God’s plan for her life.
At age 22, God called her into ministry. She served her local church working with youth, leading worship and, eventually, serving as their pastor for over 25 years.
It was there that Irene discovered she had a call to preach and teach God’s word. Irene says, “I began speaking at the age of 6 months (true story), and I haven’t stopped since.” She is a self-proclaimed preaching teacher who combines humor, candor, and refreshing transparency to communicate biblical principles and life lessons.
Irene’s compassionate heart and genuine love for people makes her relatable and approachable. Her down-to-earth style and joyful heart captivates her listeners and helps them connect to her on a personal level.
As an anointed worship leader and soloist, Irene’s desire is to lead others to experience God’s presence and God’s love.
At age 45, Irene began to pursue a career in social work. Her goal was to earn a Master’s Degree before age 50, and on August 9, 2015, ONE day before her 50th birthday, Irene received her Master of Social Work from The Graduate School of Social Service at Fordham University.
Irene loves her family and friends and values spending time with them. Her favorite pastime is shopping, and she enjoys traveling, especially to warm climates with beautiful beaches.
She is an optimist with a loud, unapologetic laugh, who always sees the glass half full. Irene lives with this assurance from her favorite bible verse: “All things work together for the good of those who love God and have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Irene was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and now resides in Queens with her firstborn, her beloved “Native New Yorkie," Coco.
